Barry Moore II, PhD

About Me

Hello! My name is Barry Moore II. I received my Ph.D. in Theoretical Chemistry from the State University of New York at Buffalo with Prof. Jochen Autschbach. I work at the University of Pittsburgh in the Center for Research Computing as Technical Lead. In my job, I tend to be focused on Linux administration on RHEL, Python programming and scripting, Slurm accounting and statistics, and education for scientists learning how to program.

In my personal time, I like learning about functional programming using Haskell. I also really enjoy programming languages. I think the next language I will try to learn (alongside Haskell) is Scala for Apache Spark/Kafka. I also try to learn entirely in the open and stream my failures on The current schedule is Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday from 7 to 10 pm. Right now, I am switching between Haskell Programming from First Principles and working on a silly open source database written in Python called grocer.
